Equipment & adaptations

Ask the club what it can lend for a first session, including an air rifle, a shooting table or bench, and a rifle support stand if appropriate. Ask whether the setup can accommodate your seating and reach before you buy equipment.

Your starting point

Contact a club or adaptive sports program that offers supervised 10-meter air rifle. Ask whether a coach has worked with adaptive athletes, whether the range and firing line are accessible, and what the club provides for a trial session. At the first practice, expect a safety orientation and time with the coach to check the equipment and position.

  1. Read the official sport guide below.
  2. Ask a local program about beginner sessions, accessibility, equipment, and instruction.
  3. Before competing, confirm the event’s eligibility, rules, and classification process.

Eligibility & classification

For para rifle, World Shooting Para Sport distinguishes SH1 rifle athletes from SH2 rifle athletes, who require a stand to support the weight of the rifle. If you want to compete, ask the event organizer what rules it follows, whether it offers classification, and what documentation you need.

An equipment lesson from EOAA’s founder

Hari Tadpatri and his father built a shooting table for about $50 after finding a commercial option priced around $700. Hari used their table at Para Camp matches. Before spending money, ask the club if you can try its setup, and have the event organizer review any equipment you plan to bring.
